Nebraska Information Network is a non-profit Trade Organization supported
by annual membership fees paid by the Telecommunications Industry Members, approved
by the Internal Revenue Service as a 501 (c)(6) organization.
Nebraska Information Network’s membership is comprised of
most of Nebraska’s 39 local telephone companies. Membership
is open to all Incumbent Local Exchange Carriers (ILECs) in Nebraska.
These Companies serve significant numbers of rural customers through
the operation of telephone exchanges (switches) in rural communities.
NIN was established in 1994 when the leadership in the Nebraska
Telecommunications Industry was looking for ways to improve the economy and
life experiences for rural areas of Nebraska. Having made significant
investment in the latest telecommunications technology within the
state, both rural and city, the industry needed to see this technology
put to use to benefit the communities that they served. The industries
financial success in each community is based on a relationship with
that community and using the deployed technology to help the community
grow.
Membership in NIN is categorized by size of company, based on the
number of access lines served /managed by one corporate structure.
There are three membership classes with scaled annual membership
fees.
The Board of Directors is comprised of three directors from each
of the three membership categories, officers are then chosen by the
Board of Directors. Current directors and officers are:
